Accessibility statement

New Israel Association of Sciences (R.A.) (NIAS) wants the nias.org.il website to be easy to use and accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

Accessibility level

The website has been made accessible in accordance with the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Accessibility Adjustments for Service) Regulations, 5773-2013, and Israeli Standard SI 5568, Part 1, at level AA. The standard is based on the WCAG 2.0 guidelines.

What we have done

  • Every page has a heading structure and marked regions (header, navigation, main content, footer), with a "Skip to content" link at the top.
  • The whole website can be used with a keyboard alone, and the focus position is clearly visible.
  • Text contrast against the background is at least 4.5:1 (at least 3:1 for large text).
  • Images and icons have text alternatives. Purely decorative images are marked so that screen readers skip them.
  • Pages can be zoomed to 200% without loss of content or functions.
  • The language of each page is set in the code, and so is the language of every passage in another language, so that screen readers read it correctly. The website is available in Hebrew, Russian and English; Hebrew is displayed right to left.
  • Buttons that repeat on a page, such as "Join on ZOOM", have an accessible name that includes the seminar title.
  • Links that open in a new window or lead to another website are marked in text.

How we tested

The website was tested in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (current desktop versions for Windows) and in a 390 px mobile view, as well as with keyboard navigation (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Escape, and skip to main content), automated checks, and verification of semantic landmark markup (header, main, nav, footer) and ARIA / <bdi> labels for screen readers (NVDA).

Known limitations

  • Seminar announcements are published in the language of the seminar, usually Russian, and are not always translated into Hebrew and English. The language of the text is set in the code, so screen readers read it in the original language. If you need help with seminar details, please contact us.
  • The link to materials from previous years leads to netanyascientific.com. That is an external website, not part of this website, and this statement does not cover it.
  • Seminars take place on Zoom, an external service. Zoom is responsible for the accessibility of its own platform. If you need an adjustment to take part in a seminar, write to us in advance and we will see how we can help.
  • If you come across a downloadable document that is not accessible, we will send it to you in an accessible format on request.
